Quick answers
›How do I claim my vehicle?
Sign in, choose Add a vehicle in your garage and enter the registration. If someone else already holds the claim, you can request a takeover — the current keeper gets seven days to respond, and a workshop that knows the vehicle can vouch for you.
›Can I lose my claim on a vehicle?
Yes, and it’s worth knowing how. Someone can challenge your claim — you get an email and seven days to keep or hand it over (48 hours if your claim was never verified and the signals are against you). If we hear nothing from you for 90 days we open a dormancy notice, nudge you halfway through, and release the claim after a further 30 days — nobody is seated in your place and you can re-claim it. A verified workshop that has stamped the vehicle can also tell us someone else is its keeper — that opens the same seven-day challenge, the notice tells you a workshop is behind it, and one tap keeps the book. It never moves the book without asking you. The full detail is in section 3 of the terms; if a decision looks wrong, email us with your evidence and a human will look at it.
›How do transfers work when I sell?
Open the vehicle’s Transfer tab and generate a one-time handover code. Give it to the buyer — they redeem it at service-book.co.uk/transfer (or in the app) and the whole book moves with the vehicle: stamps, MOT history and service documents. Your V5C scan is the exception — it carries your name and address, so it detaches automatically and stays on your personal documents shelf. The code lasts 72 hours and you can cancel any time before they confirm.
›Who can see my documents?
The vehicle’s current keeper — plus anyone you deliberately show them to, and our own staff when they’re investigating a keeper dispute or an abuse report. Documents are stored privately and served through short-lived signed links, so when the vehicle changes hands the previous keeper loses access. Showing them to a buyer is a choice you make per link: on the Share tab, a full-history link only carries the paperwork if you tick “include the paperwork”, and revoking the link takes the files back with it. Your V5C scan is never shared and is treated differently again: it detaches at every keeper change and stays on your personal documents shelf. Deleting a document is permanent, so the site asks you to confirm first.
›How does workshop billing work?
Owner accounts are free, forever. Workshop plans start at £7.99/month with a 14-day free trial — billing runs through Stripe from the dealer portal, and you can cancel any time. Issued stamps stay valid and verifiable forever. See plans and pricing.
›How do I change my sign-in email?
Your email is your sign-in, so there’s no self-serve change yet — email support@service-book.co.uk from your current address and we’ll sort it.
›How do I export or delete my data?
Both live in Settings (and in the app): export downloads everything we hold about you as JSON; deletion erases your personal data immediately. Stamps persist pseudonymously so the vehicle’s history stays honest — the privacy policy has the detail.
One inbox, whatever the question
We’re a small team, so everything goes to support@service-book.co.uk and is read by the people who built this. These links start your subject line so the right conversation finds you faster:
- Report a security issue — vulnerability reports (see our security page for the disclosure policy).
- Ask about your data — data-protection questions and rights requests (privacy policy).
- Ask about the terms — anything about the terms of service.
Unhappy with how we handled your personal data? You can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
